GUT-TIP of the WEEK:

When I went Dairy Free, the thing I missed most was brie cheese. Every time I’d walk by it in the market I’d remember whiling away long afternoons sitting on the Seine.

After whatever museum (they even have a Musée de l'Homme [Museum of Man] where the exhibit answers the questions “Where do we come from? Who are we? Where are we going?”) I visited, I would pull out my journal …

And while I watched the boats float by on the green sun-specked water, I’d scribble some nonsense about what I’d seen that day. And snack on a fresh-baked baguette and equally fresh-cut slice of brie.

So when I found Nuts for Cheese Un-Brie-Lievable cashew cheese I was thrilled! Now … it’s not quite the same as that melt-in-your mouth perfection I remember. But its creamy goodness and herbal aromatics will seduce you just as much.

I love it spread on Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers as a quick snack.  And haven’t tried it with baguettes yet but Udi’s, Schar, and MyBread have them. You can also get them at Sprouts (the crackers too!), Amazon and Whole Foods.

RESEARCH DEETS:

Picture this: Cutting-edge research, hot off the press! 📚 A groundbreaking study from the journal Cell, entitle “Personalized microbiome-driven effects of non-nutritive sweeteners on human glucose tolerance” has peeled back the curtain on the mysterious world of non-nutritive sweeteners (NNS). 🍬✨

Here's the jaw-dropping twist: Sugar substitutes, like Sucralose (hello, Splenda), and saccharin, don't just play tricks on our taste buds. 🤯 They wield profound effects on our microbiomes, aka our guts. 🦠💫

The shocker? When the feces of NNS consumers were transplanted into mice (yup, you read that right), these little rodents started to wobble on the tightrope of glucose intolerance too. 🐁🤔

It's not all bad news in the land of artificial sweeteners through. Aspartame and stevia strutted onto the stage too, but the spotlight revealed no significant differences in this compared to the two control groups having glucose (sugar) and no sweetener. 🎭🌿

My Gut-Take:

💪 This is a MAJOR well-constructed study because … as Lustig said … it is REPODUCIBLE in more than one species. And DOES show that one thing can cause another … a very hard thing to prove in studies where foods and food chemicals are tested.

Another thing … the other two NNS’s did NOT show that they caused glucose intolerance. But we know that aspartame has many nasty side effects like cancer. And stevia appears to be safe to date. I hope so … because I use it. 🌍🔍💡

So why am I so excited about this? Well … glucose intolerance can give you diabetes and metabolic syndrome among other things. 🌍🔍💡 In other words … it’ll make you fat MAMA (and Daddy) … rounder than a snowman in winter. ☃️❌

SUPPLEMENT TAKES:

L-Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid (molecule that forms proteins) in the body. It does many good things for you, including:

Making muscle tissue

Protecting your intestines

Supporting the immune system

Detoxifying the liver

Aiding in cancer treatment by reducing muscle wasting, inflammation, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Most of all … it helps maintain your intestinal lining and protects against leaky gut and … along with it … a stressed immune system. So taking a supplement for these might be a good thing.

My Gut-Take:

I’ve known about this supplement for over 20 years now. Because of my expertise with supplements, I was hired for a very rare type of clinic experience … an integrated cancer center.

I knew absolutely nothing about supplements for cancer then. But … within the year … I was invited to speak all over the world … even at my own association … about just that. And asked to participate in several textbook projects.

When I left the clinic, the oncologist who did chemotherapy research included it in his next study. Even with all those accolades, I considered this my greatest. The medical community had listened!

This supplement is tasteless and odorless so you can use it in anything. I like to add it to my morning smoothie (the powder is less expensive and more powerful than the capsules) but you can even put it in things like mashed potatoes and soups. Easy-peasy … add to some juice a couple of times a day.

I’ve often said that … if it worked for my cancer patients … it’ll work for you. That’s why it’s a vital part of my Jill’s Good Gut Elixir plan. So you might want to check it out … especially the instructions for using in the plan.
